Rising Style Star: Ceta Walters
Ceta Walters is one of Chicago's top content creators, and it's no wonder why - she is the definition of style and substance. Not only does this chic Chicagoan share beautiful fashion photos and glimpses of our city, but she also lets her readers in on her life, even when things aren't picture perfect. This authenticity creates connections with her audience and has helped her build an inspiring and uplifting space on the internet. You can find her POV at ClarkandStone, named after her two sons.
If you're looking for a fantastic new follow, this multitasking mom of two has you covered for all things fabulous, including fashion, travel, and family.
Ceta took the time to speak with us about why she decided to start a blog, her advice for those considering a career in social media, and a few of her favorite local spots to shop in Chicago!
What led you to decide to start a blog?
I've always had a love for fashion. I was a stay-at-home mom and needed something outside of motherhood. A friend suggested I start a blog, so I launched it in October 2016. I launched only as a fashion blogger. I was sharing my personal style on my grid and my kids and travel on my instastory.
Although you talk about much more than fashion, style is a significant component of your social media presence-could you describe your personal style for us?
My personal style is classic and edgy, with a little boho. I'm a huge tomboy hence the love for Jordan's, so I throw in a little tomboy chic.
What are some of your favorite fashion trends of the season? Where are your favorite boutiques to shop in Chicago?
The sparkle trend, oversized blazers, chunky loafers, maxi denim skirts, and moto boots. I'm still rocking my Prada moto boots this year.
My favorite store was VMR. I rent a lot from Janet Mandell because she has everything. Blake has an amazing, curated collection of a lot of my favorite designers. I also love Space 519. They have my three loves, fashion, home decor, and jewelry.
While you wear a variety of styles and designs, do you have any Chicago-based designers who you actively seek out?
I love Juene Otte. The tulle skirt is my fave. There is a designer that makes these amazing knit pieces, Ciprianamia is stunning.
You've had a lot of success in the industry- what advice would you give to someone looking to become a content creator? What do you think makes your work so successful?
My advice is to contact everyone you know and tell them about your content. There is no right time so just do it. Determine your niche. For me, it has always been fashion, motherhood, and travel. I remember I didn't want to show my sons, yet I named my blog after them. lol. People were connecting with me for so many different reasons because I wear so many hats. There is room for everyone as long as you're authentic to yourself.
You've had some high-profile brand partnerships; what do you think fashion brands that want to work with content creators like yourself should know?
I have been extremely blessed in this regard. I think brands love my high-quality images. I know nothing about photography other than how I envision a look. I've always worked with a photographer because I love editorial images. It comes from many years of buying Vogue and Marie Claire as a young girl.
What are some of your favorite places to get inspired to create in Chicago? Do you have any go-to areas in the city when you want to shoot great content?
I love shooting in Fulton Market, River North, and Gold Coast. I like more of an urban feel and not so much residential backgrounds. I love the cobblestones in Fulton Market.
What is your favorite post you've ever written and why?
My favorite post that was personal was why I decided to get a divorce. It went viral. I had started a series on my blog called Ceta's Diaries. I've learned from loving editorial style shooting that people don't connect to me right away. It's my instastories and blog post that allowed people to truly get to know me.
Do you have a favorite photoshoot?
My favorite shoot, hands down, is when I short his beautiful red dress from Janet Mandell at Stony Islands Art Bank. I look suspended in air on a library ladder. It was pretty epic.
What does being part of Chicago's fashion community mean to you?
It's the support. In the beginning, I would get tons of emails or dm's from Chicago designers and for fashion events. Now, it's starting to pick up again, and I love it. I live for the events because there's a room filled with inspiration from like-minded individuals.
